Obituary

DARTMOUTH — Mary A. Ahlander, 96, of North Dartmouth, died April 30, 2010 at home. She was the wife of the late Victor A. Ahlander.

She was born in New Bedford, the daughter of John and Hannah (Harrington) Hyland.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, So. Dartmouth, MA.

She was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1931. After graduation she was employed as a telephone operator for New England Telephone and Telegraph until the birth of her children. In her later years, she worked as a switchboard operator for the Star Store.

Survivors include one son: Stephen H. Ahlander of No. Dartmouth; two daughters: Mary J. Ahlander and Linda E. Ahlander, both of No. Dartmouth; a sister-in-law Betty Hyland of Brockton; a cousin, Joanne Duchesneau of New Bedford; nieces and nephews. She also leaves the family pet, Tessie Mae.

She was the sister of the late John Hyland Jr. and Charles Hyland.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 783 Dartmouth St., So. Dartmouth.

Burial will follow in the South Dartmouth Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford.
