METHUEN - Henry J. Berthold 89 of Methuen died peacefully on Tuesday April 27, 2010 at his home with his family by his side.
Born and educated in Lawrence, MA he was the son of Joseph and Laura (Fluet) Berthold. During World War II he served in the U.S. Merchant Marines, he was stationed aboard the ship Delisle which was fired upon. After being rescued he was transferred to another ship which brought troops to Normandy. He was a decorated World War II Veteran he was honorably discharged on July 9, 1945. For many years he worked in the Wood Mill in Lawrence, MA.
Henry was an accomplished carpenter and built his own home. He was a devoted husband, father, and Papa.
He leaves his beloved wife of 66 years Helen E. (Ichton) Berthold of Methuen, MA.
He is also survived by his children, Henry Ronald Berthold and his wife Ann of Englewood, FL and Derry, NH, Maureen Haidaichuk and her husband Robert of Salem, NH, Gail King and her husband Paul of Dana Point, CA.
Sister Irene Laird of Peabody, MA and brothers Edward Berthold of Salem, NH, Raymond Berthold of North Andover, MA, Arthur Berthold of Salem, NH and Rev. George Berthold of Manchester, NH.
Six cherished grandsons Robert Haidaichuk, Jr. and his wife Cyndy, Brian Haidaichuk and his wife Cheri, Tom Berthold, Steven Haidaichuk and his wife Beth, Michael and Derek Sabor.
Great-grandchildren Brittany, Kaylee, Robbie, Ryan, Alex Haidaichuk and Angelika Berthold.
Henry was pre-deceased by his brother Leo Berthold and sister Helen Peters.
