Obituary

SALEM - Velma E. (Finniss) Oliver, 83, of Salem, wife of the late Philip P. Oliver, died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at the Hammersmith House Nursing Home in Saugus.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Roy D. and Rose (Sansoucy) Finniss. She attended Saltonstall School and was a graduate of Salem High School.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed for many years as a bookkeeper in the office of her brother, R. Marshall Finniss, Public Accountant and later with Ryan and Coscia in Salem.

Velma was a lifelong and active member of the First Baptist Church in Salem and served with the Shaughnessy-Kaplan Hospital Auxiliary and as a volunteer manager of the Dove Gift Shop. Mrs. Oliver maintained a friendship with several of her classmates at the Saltonstall School and continued to meet and keep in touch with them over the years.

Mrs Oliver is survived by her only daughter, Patricia Walkama, of Salem, four grandchildren, Janet Oliver, Elizabeth Noble, Katherine Walkama and , Philip Walkama, all of Salem and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 11 brother and sisters, Robert, George, Warren, Donald, Earl, and R. Marshall Finniss, Ruth Averett, Frances McCarron, Joan Greaves, Viola Rego and Barbara Munroe.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11 am in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 to 11 am, prior to the service.
