Obituary

New Bedford – George F. Westgate, 82, of E. Freetown died April 22, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Phyllis L. (Chace) Westgate to whom he was married for 61 years.

Mr. Westgate was born in Freetown, son of the late Charles I. and Pearl E. (Westgate) Westgate, and was a lifelong resident of the town. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a recipient of the WWII Victory Medal. He was employed by Newmasket Construction, Middleboro until his retirement. He enjoyed caring for his wife, gardening and his cats.

Survivors include 2 daughters: Janice L. Laventure and her husband Roger of E. Freetown and Deborah A. Haworth and her husband Geoffrey of Fairhaven; a son: Gary F. Westgate and his wife Lisa of E. Freetown; 2 sisters: Julia M. Pittsley and Marion J. Place both of E. Freetown; 3 brothers: Daniel I. Westgate, Charles I. Westgate, Jr. and Gerald P. Westgate all of E. Freetown; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.

He was father of the late Robert E. Westgate and brother of the late Virginia P. Westgate, Viola E. Perry and Barbara A. Clark.

Visiting hours Monday, April 26, 2010, 5:00-8:00 P.M.

Funeral services on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Kirby Funeral Home.

Interment in Chace Cemetery, E. Freetown.
