Obituary


MANCHESTER- Anthony Amato, 90, died April 21, 2010 at Catholic Medical Center after a period of failing health.
He was born in Manchester in 1920 the son of Francis and Maria Amato. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester and a graduate of Manchester Central High School.
In February of 1941 he left with the 172nd Field Artillery National Guard and served in the 774th and 671st tank destroyer battalions. He was a communication Chief and Staff Sargeant. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations until the war ended in 1945. Following service, with the help of books from the library, he rebuilt a home from the ground up for his family. He was employed as a skilled boot and shoe cutter. He belonged to St Peter’s Church where he served as an usher for many years. He was a member of the League of 1000 Men of The Precious Blood Monastery.
Members of his family include his wife of 68 years Anita (Tessier) Amato of Manchester, one daughter Nina Amato of Manchester, one son Anthony F. Amato of Hooksett, two sisters, Lena Doyon of Orange, CA., Yolanda Baron of Manchester, one brother Lazzero Amato of Manchester and several nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 8 PM at J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St.. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 AM in St. Peter Church, Auburn. Burial will be in the NH Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Precious Blood Monastery, 700 Bridge St. Manchester, NH 03104.
