Obituary

Joseph P. “Paul” Asselin, 86, of 8 Buckboard Pass and formerly of Northbridge and Welland, Ontario, Canada died Tuesday, April 20 in Baystate Marylane Hospital after being stricken ill.

He leaves his wife of 17 years, Marie M. (Giguere) Derosier, a son Mark R. Asselin of CT, a daughter Lynn Millette of Douglas, a step-son Bruce Derosier of East Brookfield, a step-daughter Diane Begin of Concord, N.H., four grandsons, a granddaughter, five step-grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Yvette (Trahan) Asselin and 17 brothers and sisters.

Mr. Asselin was born in Northbridge, son of Alphonse and Exilda (Biledeau) Asselin. He was a leadman at Fenwall Corp. in Ashland for 21 years retiring in 1985. He served in the Royal Canadian Army from 1941-1945 in the Medical Corps. 1st Canadian Division serving in Sicily, Italy, Southern France, Belgium and the Netherlands. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in East Brookfield and the Gaudette-Kirk Post 138 American Legion, Spencer. A former member of St. Peter’s Church, Northbridge and the Oliver Ashton Post 343 American Legion, Northbridge. He enjoyed golfing, taking pictures, walking his dogs, fishing and socializing with friends and neighbors.

A Graveside Service will be held Monday, April 26 at 10:00 AM in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, Rt. 9, Spencer. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 136, East Brookfield, MA 01515. J. Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer is directing arrangements.
