John W. Donaher, 86…WWII Army Veteran…
LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA: John W. Donaher, age 86, an avid University of Notre Dame Football fan and longtime resident of Long Beach, CA died Saturday, October 18, 2003 at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Harbor City, CA.
He was born in Boston on May 1, 1917 the son of the late John P. and Ann (Kinihan) Donaher. Mr. Donaher was raised in Wilmington, Mass and graduated from Wilmington High School.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served during World War II and was honorably discharged from Ft. Dix, NJ on August 10, 1946 with the rank of Tech-4.
Mr. Donaher lived in Long Beach, California for many years. Prior to his retirement, he worked as an electrician for the Long Beach Naval Yard for over 40 years.
He was a former member of the Long Beach area American Legion, V.F.W. and Elks organizations.
Mr. Donaher enjoyed watching the California Angels Baseball team and Notre Dame Football team.
He is survived by 1 brother; Edward M. Donaher and his wife Marilyn (Bates) of New Boston, NH; several nieces and nephews including; Kathleen Suyematsu of Hampstead, NH, Michael Donaher of Weare, NH, John “Peter” Donaher of Milford, NH and James F. Donaher of Hooksett, NH; also his great niece; Katie Harrington of West Springfield.Mr. Donaher was the brother of the late James E. Donaher.
Prayers will be offered Thursday, October 23, 2003 at 12 noon at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME, 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY, followed by interment at the Tewksbury Cemetery.
