Obituary

Mrs. Joanne Armstrong, 68 of Haverhill formerly of Malden and Somerville, died Thursday following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Frank Armstrong with whom she shared more than 46 years of marriage. Mrs. Armstrong was born in Medford, the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Gagliolo) Palazzolo. She is a graduate of Somerville High School, class of 1959. For over 25 years she had worked as a Counselor at the Full Circle High School in Somerville. She loved her trips to Maine where she and her husband had a summer home. An active woman, she could be found playing games of chance at Foxwoods, on a beach or getting together with her high school girlfriends or enjoying dinners with her brother Paul and his wife Theresa. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she thought any day spent with family was a good day. She loved to travel and enjoyed summers at the Frank Davis Resort. A few years back she was an avid softball player and later coached softball teams in the former St. Polycarp’s Somerville Softball League. In addition to her husband, she leaves a daughter: Kelly McDonough and her husband Bob of Durham NH, a son Scott Armstrong and his wife Kathleen of Haverhill, 6 Grandchildren, Bobby, Patrick, Connor & Erin McDonough; Hannah & Grace Armstrong. Sister of Paul Palazzolo and his wife Theresa of Somerville, aunt of Lisa Cataldo, Tracey Morrissey & Candice McGrath. She will be sadly missed by her beloved dogs Max & Alice. Friends may call on Monday from 4 thru 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden, Tuesday at 9:00 am. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
