Obituary

Agnes C. (Flannery) Kelly, age 97 died on Thursday, April 8th in Marian Manor Nursing Home following a short illness. She was the wife of the late Massachusetts State Police Adjutant, Mayor John J. Kelly, who served as administrative aide to former Lt. Governor Robert A. Murphy. She was also the sister of the late State Representative Charles L. Flannery. Born in Plymouth, MA, Mrs. Kelly was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Annie (Mullane) Flannery and moved to Taunton as a young child. Educated in Taunton public schools she was employed at Carlowe’s Apothecary in downtown Taunton for nearly ten years prior to her marriage at Sacred Heart Church on June 8, 1946. Mrs. Kelly is best remembered as a dedicated wife and mother and devout Roman Catholic. She was a longtime parishioner at the former Sacred Heart Church, now the Annunciation of the Lord Church, where she served as a religious education teacher, a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the parish council, the Ladies Guild, the St. Vincent de Paul Society and an auxiliary of the Legion of Mary. She campaigned for the annual Catholic Charities Appeal and was a longtime supporter of the Holy Union Sisters Building Fund at the Sacred Heart Academy in Fall River and a member of the Parents Circle at Trinity College in Washington, D.C. and Saint Joseph College in West Hartford, CT. She was also engaged in the charitable works of the Catholic Queens Daughters. In 1982 she received the Diocese of Fall River’s Marian Medal from Archbishop Daniel A. Cronin in recognition of her outstanding service to the Catholic Church. She is survived by her two daughters, Attorney Mary A. Vasile and her husband James of Alexandria, VA. And Dr. Joan M. Kelly of Westport, CT. and two sisters, Marian A. Pearson of West Roxbury and Rita E. Machado of Taunton and many nieces and nephews. In addition to Representative Flannery she was predeceased by her three other Brothers John T., James E. and Richard F. Flannery and two sisters Anne F. and Kathleen T. Flannery. The funeral will be held from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA. on Thursday, April 15th at 10am. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Annunciation of the Lord Church, 31 First St. in Taunton at 11am. Interment will be at the St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 14th from 4-8pm.
