Obituary

William James McHale, born in Boston and a longtime resident of Walpole, passed on peacefully April 6, 2010.

He leaves behind three children: Kathleen (Gilles Filion) of Quebec, Canada; William John (Debra Runci) of Medfield; and Denise of Foxboro. Also missing him are his grandchildren: Emmalie (Billy Hannon), Darcy James and Brenna Filion of Quebec; Caitlin Jean Albrecht of Foxboro and Kevin Soule of Medfield. Three great-granddaughters lost their Grampa; Anya, Sadie and Rylee Jane. Rita Corcoran McHale, deceased in 1996, has welcomed him safely home.

Mr. McHale was a veteran of World War Two and served in the Philippines. He was a member of the American Legion, the Little Big Horn Association and the Westwood Gun Club. He worked for General Tire for many years, and volunteered after retirement for Friends of the Walpole Public Library, Community Television and The Council on Ageing.

Mr. McHale was an auxiliary officer with the Walpole Police force for twenty-three years as marksmanship instructor and traffic assistant.

Mr. McHale was an avid book collector and reader, an accomplished photographer, and member of the Stony Brook Camera Club.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Walpole Public Library, 65 Common St. Walpole, MA 02081 or to Veterans Associations will be greatly appreciated.

Relatives and friend are invited to attend his funeral from the Ginley Funeral Home, 892 Main St., Walpole on Monday, April 12 at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Timothy’s Church, 650 Nichols St. in Norwood at 10 a.m.

Burial with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne at 1 p.m.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 – 8 p.m.
