AUBURN
Walter L. Niemi, 47, of Auburn died , Monday, March 29.
He leaves his mother, Ann L. (Lorentz) Niemi of Berlin; his father, Peter Niemi of Athol; two brothers, Robert Niemi of Hudson and James Niemi of Holden and New Hampshire; two sisters, Rae Niemi of Berlin and Heidi Windward of Clinton; seven nieces and nephews, Todd Niemi, DiAnna Papaleo, Carl Niemi, Brian Niemi, Nate Niemi, Braeden Niemi and Holly Niemi; and a great nephew, Aiden Alexander. He was born in Concord and graduated from Assabet Valley Regional High School.
Walter was the Dining Services Administrator at the College of the Holy Cross, where he worked for 28 years. He was a past winner of the Claire Burns award for distinguished service at the College. His shoes will be hard to fill.
The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, April 7 at 11 AM in CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester. Burial will be private in Mt. Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting Hours will be held Tuesday, April 6 from 5 to 7 PM and Wednesday, April 7 from 10 to 11 AM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Retirement Fund for the Jesuit Community c/o Campion Center, 319 Concord Rd., Weston, MA 02493.
