John F. Ferreira Sr.
...formerly of Tewksbury, owned J & H trucking; 82
LOWELL - John F. Ferreira Sr., age 82, a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran and retired truck driver, died Wednesday morning, March 31, after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Helen R. (Dupuis) Ferreira, who survives him.
He was born in Madeira, Portugal, November 7, 1927, one of seven children of the late Joaquim and Virginia (Nobrega) Ferreira. He was raised in Lowell, lived on Erlin Avenue in Tewksbury for over 35 years, and returned to Lowell nine years ago.
He was a Veteran of the Army Air Corps assigned to the Pacific Theater, and served with the occupation forces in Okinawa, Japan.
He worked for Commodore Foods for over 30 years, before forming his own trucking company, J & H Trucking, based in Tewksbury. He was a former member of the AFL-CIO Teamsters Local 49.
In his earlier years, he was active in the Wamesit Bowling Leagues in Tewksbury, and the Brentwood Lanes in Lowell. He was a lifelong cribbage player, and enjoyed day trips and vacations at Salisbury Beach. He especially enjoyed times with his family.
He was the devoted father of eight, John F. Ferreira Jr. and his wife Lorraine (Peloquin) of Tewksbury, Brian S. Ferreira of Lowell, Michael F. Ferreira and his wife Nancy (Williams) of Salem, NH, Donna M. Connors and her husband Joseph of Nashua, NH, Dennis J. Ferreira and his wife Mary (Brostek) of Lowell, Stephen J. Ferreira and his wife Joyce (Murray) of Springfield, MA, Paul Ferreira of Lowell, Susan A. Barry and her husband Paul of Dracut; a brother, Joseph M. Ferreira and his wife Maureen (Conway) of Pelham, NH; loving grandfather of twelve; beloved great grandfather of fifteen; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was also brother of the late Mary Sypien, Angelina Adams, Hilda Ferreira, Alice Andrade, and Anthony Ferreira.
His Funeral Service was held Saturday, April 3, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial with Air Force Honors followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701 will be appreciated.
