Obituary

George L. Webster, 89, of Wilmington passed away peacefully in his home on March 26th. He was the husband of Jean E. Webster. Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Leroy H. and Viola Mae Adams Webster.

Mr. Webster was a Wilmington resident for sixty years. He graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and from the Worcester Boys Trade School as a printer.

Prior to World War II, he worked in Washington D.C. for a year with the Dept. of Internal Revenue. Drafted in 1942, he served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945, reaching the rank of staff sergeant. After the war, he returned to the Internal Revenue in Boston before entering the printing trade.

Mr. Webster was a gifted artist and loved working with watercolors, which he taught for ten years at the Wilmington Senior Center. He was also an avid reader and particularly enjoyed early American history.

In addition to his wife Jean, to whom he was married 67 years, he is survived by their children, Alice Sexton of Derry, NH, James Webster and his wife Gloria Parkinson of Clinton, and Melissa Carrington and her husband Jay of Haverhill. He is also survived by five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
