New Bedford - Alvarina Reis (Maciel) Viegas, age 86 years, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 26, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio E.S. Viegas. Alvarina was the mother of Jose L. husband of Fernanda D. Viegas, Aira M. Viegas and Goretti V. wife of Nelson Conchinha all of New Bedford. She was the grandmother of Daniel D. husband of Jessica Viegas, David D. Viegas, Devin D. Viegas, Kevin V. Conchinha, Shawn V. Conchinha and Kayla A. Conchinha, the great- grandmother of Dominic D. Viegas, Hannah S. Viegas and Cameron J. Conchinha. Mrs. Viegas was the sister of Antonio Maciel of St. Jorge, Açores, Raquel Maciel and Maria Elvira Moreira both of Lisbon, Portugal, and the late Aira Reis Costa. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Viegas was a daughter of the late Maria Elvira Freitas Lopes and Frederico Maciel. She was born in São. Jorge, Açores, Portugal. She was employed as a trimmer at Langshaw Mfg. until her retirement.
Mrs. Viegas’s Funeral will be Tuesday at 8 A.M. from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St., with a Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday from 5-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
