Lucy (Bollea) Economos, 90, of New Bedford died Friday March 26, 2010 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Alex Economos, who passed away on October 6, 2009. They had been married for 62 years.
Born in Dartmouth, the daughter of the late John and Rose (Bonsaver) Bollea, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
Mrs. Economos was formerly employed by the Continental Screw Company and the Wamsutta Mills.
She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter. She enjoyed gardening and loved to bake. She loved spending time with her great-nephews, Tommy, Alex, and Roger Ledoux. She was loved and adored by all.
Survivors include her sister, Josephine Ledoux and husband Marcel of New Bedford; her sister-in-law, Alice Reedy; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was the sister of the late Anne Hargraves, Mary Higham, Stella Fournier, Victor, Joseph, Albert, and Henry Bollea.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
