Barbara J. Jones, 69, of Londonderry, NH, died Thursday, March 11, 2010 in the Southern Volusia Hospice Care Center in Edgewater, FL, following a 10 month battle with cancer. Her family and friends were with her the entire five days she spent in the care center. She was born March 9, 1941 in Ludlow, MA the only child of the late George and Edna (Cooley) Watson. They gave her the nickname of Bobbie and most people know her by that name. She graduated from Ludlow High School in 1959 and recently attended her 50th class reunion there. She worked at Chicopee Manufacturing in Chicopee, MA as a lab technician until she moved to Orlando, FL following her marriage. She was employed there as a credit manager for Montgomery Ward. She moved back to New England in 1967 and then moved to Belvidere, NJ in 1969 due to a transfer. She and her husband were transferred again in 1975 to the Boston area and took up residence in Londonderry and have lived there ever since.
Barbara was a stay at home Mom while her sons were in school. When the time came for college, she became employed at Mini-Micro Business Systems in Candia, NH and later in Manchester, NH as a bookkeeper. Earlier in the late 70's and 80's, she was a volunteer with the Londonderry Panther Pop Warner football program for several years and had served as the treasurer for two years. She also volunteered in the Derry Demons football program. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for many years and has served in many capacities over the years including President. She was an avid reader and collector of tea sets and Royal Doulton Dolls.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, F. James Jones of Londonderry; two sons, James A. Jones and his wife Christine, and David T. Jones and his wife Elaine; three grandchildren, Samantha, Olivia and Joshua; two step grandchildren, Amanda and John. As well as several cousins, in-laws and numerous friends.
Memorial calling hours were held on Friday, April 9th from 5 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 10th at 10:00am in the funeral home. The burial followed in the Pillsbury Cemetery in Londonderry.
