Obituary

JENKINS - Ken M. Jenkins, 65, of Douglas, GA, and Amelia Island, FL, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 24, 2010, at his Amelia Island residence. He was a native of Albany, GA, grew up in Northport, AL, and later in Tifton, GA. He was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Fernandina Beach.
Ken was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1971. He was a captain and flew Huey helicopters with the 20th Special Ops. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran, receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Distinguished Flying Cross among others. More recently he was in the cargo trailer business with TransHaul of Douglas, GA.
He was a proud and dedicated member of the Patriot Guard Motorcycle Club, and held lifetime memberships with the American Legion, VFW, and the American Legion Riders. He enjoyed golf and riding motorcycles and had a passion for POW’s, MIA’s and helping children.
Ken was preceded in death by his mother, Lula C. Jenkins, father, Belton H. Jenkins and brother, Gregory M. Jenkins, of Tifton, GA. He is survived by loved ones Selena Smith of Amelia Island; Cynthia Jenkins of Douglas, cousins Elaine West of Fairburn, GA., Philip R. Jenkins of Northport, Marie Jackson of Manhattan, KS, and Tommy Carmichael of Tifton, and many friends.
A memorial service will be held May 15 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Fernandina Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Hope Center of Douglas, care of Vernon Talkington, P.O. Box 2996, Douglas, GA 31534. Arrangements by Green Pine Funeral Home.
