Obituary

Josephine Sophie (Choinski) Jakubiak, 92, died Monday, March 22nd. She was born November 6, 1917 in Worcester, the daughter of Wladyslaw and Jozefa (Grynczel) Choinski. Josephine graduated from Saint Mary's Grammar School in 1931 and David Hale Fanning Trade School for Girls in 1933 completing courses in power operating and dressmaking. She worked as a seamstress at Brown Shoe, Heywood Shoe, retiring from R.J. Toomey Co. at age 85.

Josephine married Thaddeus Edward Jakubiak on January 24, 1942. Her husband of 23 years passed away in 1965. Josephine is survived by her four children: Theodore J. Jakubiak and his wife, Felice of Millbury, Diane T. Browne and her husband Daniel of Auburn, Joseph P. Jakubiak and his wife Judith of Worcester and Joan M Patterson and her husband John of Carlisle. Josephine leaves nine grandchildren: Julie Kelleher, Karen Duby, Catherine Casson, Tad and Matthew Patterson, Christopher, Thomas, Jesse and Joyanna Jakubiak. She also leaves nine great-grandchildren and many dear back-porch friends. She was known as Babci and Auntie Jo to the many who loved her. She was predeceased by her three siblings, Julia Hmura, Helen Osowski and Vincent Choinski.

Josephine was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and its Women's Club. She was also a member of the Gates Lane School P.T.A where she served as treasurer. She loved reading and learning and encouraged all she met to pursue higher education. She was an avid fan of Jeopardy. Although Josephine enjoyed traveling, her true love was sharing a piece of home-made apple cake with family and friends in her home.

The funeral is Thursday March 25th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, March 24th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, PO Box 845945, Boston MA 02294-5945, ATTN: Team Babci.
