Obituary

WORCESTER/ NATICK: George R. Newman, 71, died peacefully in his sleep and went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 17, 2010.
He was born in Medford on June 21, 1938 the son of the late Douglas T. and Lynthel R. (Butler) Newman.
He is survived by his siblings, Virginia I. Mayo of Natick; Joan M. Whetton and her husband Paul of Intervale, NH; Douglas S. Newman of Bostic, NC; Harvey B. Newman of Conway, NH; F. Taylor Newman of Needham; Eleanor L. Mattingly of Bellingham; Henry R. Newman of Willcox, AZ; Dorothy R. Newman of Pensacola, FL; Stephen P. Newman of Framingham; Barbara L. Munro and her husband Ronald of Framingham and Carol R. Ogle and her husband Kenneth of Bellingham. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Brother of the late Theodore A. Newman and John R. Newman. He was the companion for 37 years of the late Cora Alice (Revell) Stanhope who died in July of 2004. He is also survived by Cora’s children: Deborah, Paul, James, Stephen and Jeffrey.
George has been a resident of Worcester for 39 years and previously resided in Natick. He spent his youth and earlier years in Natick and was a graduate of Natick High School with the Class of 1956. He served his country proudly during the Vietnam Era as a Sergeant with the United States Marine Corps. He has a long career as a security guard. He began as an armored security guard with Brinks and retired after over 23 years as the security guard at Raytheon in Waltham. He loved his animals especially his cats and bird. George also enjoyed spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by them and all who knew him.
Visitations will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2010 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Route 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
His funeral services will be held on Monday, March 22, 2010 at 10:00 at the funeral home with the Reverend Clinton Cole of the Natick Baptist Church officiating.
Interment will follow in the Newman – Stanhope family lot in Dell Park Cemetery in Natick.
His family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions in George’s memory may be sent to Baypath Humane Society, 5 Rafferty Road, Hopkinton, MA 01748 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
