Obituary

WAYLAND: Curtis D. Engberg, 83, died peacefully in the comfort of his family on March 16, 2010 at the Concord Health Care Center following a period of declining health.
He was born in Taylor Falls, Minnesota on June 6, 1926 the son of the late Cyrus D. and Hilda C. (Holm) Engberg.
Mr. Engberg is survived by his devoted wife, Mildred L. “Milly” (Hoorn) Engberg of Wayland. He was the beloved father of Daniel K. Engberg of Cedar Park, TX; Thomas L. Engberg of Waltham; Karen B. Savage of Medfield and James C. Engberg and his wife Pamela of Brimfield. He was the cherished grandfather of Eric D. and Christopher A. Engberg and Roy M., Jay D. and Valerie P. Savage.
Mr. Engberg has been a resident of Wayland for 56 years and previously resided in Minneapolis, MN. He was a graduate of North Branch High School in North Branch, MN and received his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He had a long and distinguished career as an Electrical Engineer and began at Engineering Research Associates in Minnesota. For many years, he was associated with the Sylvania Company, which became GTE and then General Dynamics, in their Waltham, Needham and Westborough offices. He was one of the founding father of Peace Lutheran Church in Wayland and served as the first president of the church. Mr. Engberg was extremely involved in both the district and national boards of the Lutheran church. He was also active in Lutheran Social Services with his wife Milly. During World War II he served his country proudly with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre as a Radioman First Class. He enjoyed bowling and golfing and was a member of the DX Club worldwide. He was dedicated to his Lutheran faith and devoted to his wife and children.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 11:00 am at Peace Lutheran Church, 107 Concord Road (Route 126), Wayland.
Interment in the Memorial garden of the church will be held at the convenience of his family.
His family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in his memory may be sent to the Peace Lutheran Church in Wayland or to Lutheran Social Services of New England, 888 Worcester Rd, Suite 160, Wellesley, MA 02481.
