Obituary

George P. Assad, Sr. 88, A resident of Methuen, Massachusetts, died on Saturday, March 13th, 2010 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

He was born in Methuen, Massachusetts to Peter and Diana (Roukos) Assad on June 13, 1921. Educated in Lawrence local schools, he graduated with great distinction from Lawrence High School. He served in the United States Army During WWII, He was 1st in his class at Medical Department Training School At Lawson General Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He served at a rank of Corporal in the Fourth Convalescent Mobile Hospital following General Douglas MacArthur, and the 1st Army as a Medical NCO, Having served in such Campaigns as Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He received such citations as the Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbons and the Good Conduct Medal. He attended the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, Ma. He worked as an Administrator for Raytheon in Andover for 20 years until his retirement. According to his family he loved Rockingham Race Track, the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtics. He was a great poker player. People took an instant liking to him and he loved to be around people. He was a long time parishioner of St. Anthony Maronite Church in Lawrence, MA.

He is the beloved husband of the late: Nancy Marie (Pappalardo) Assad and he leaves his loving children: George P. Assad, Jr. of Methuen and Linda M. Hamilton of Methuen, MA. Two brothers; Tufic Assad and his wife Jennie of Methuen, MA, Michael and his wife Sandra Assad of Seabrook, NH and one sister Rita Charmanski of Newburyport, MA. As well as several nieces and nephews.


A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 18th, 2010 at 11:00AM in St. Anthony Maronite Church in Lawrence, MA. a burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery in Methuen, MA.
