Jerry C. Ammons, 65, of Irwin County died Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, March 15, 2010, at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Matt Peavy and the Rev. Adam Tripp officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 until 9 at the funeral home.
Mr. Ammons was born February 14, 1945 in Irwin County to the late H.C. and Vernell Fulford Ammons. Living all of his life in Irwin and Ben Hill Counties, he was the retired owner and operator of Jerry’s #2 Grocery in Fitzgerald. Mr. Ammons was of the Church of God faith and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Jewell Ammons of Irwin County, GA; children: Jerry Ammons, Jr , Cyndi (Kevin) Bullock, David (Christy) Ammons, and Amanda (Wade) Brewer all of Fitzgerald; stepchildren: Cheryl (Al) Cleghorn of Fitzgerald, Lynn (Mike) Helms of Abbeville, GA, Jerry (Donna) Brogdon of Tampa, FL; 12 Grandchildren; 5 Great grandchildren; Brother, Billy Ammons of Fitzgerald and sisters, Sue (Danny) Burch of Douglas, Sherry Rogers of Douglas, Judy Gage of Douglas and Alleen Seagroves of Fitzgerald.
