John R. Torres, age 84 of Somerset passed away March 12, 2010. He was a resident of Somerset Ridge Center. Husband of Gertrude A. (Roy) Torres and son of the late John and Isabel (Ponte) Torres. Born in Fall River, he was a retired maintenance worker for Bristol County 3rd District Court in New Bedford and formerly was the proprietor of Nubrite Cleaners in Fall River. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II serving with the rank of Staff Sgt. in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 4 children: John Robert Torres and wife Nancy Ann of Portsmouth, RI, Diane Mattos and husband Glenn of Somerset, Paul Torres and wife Janine of Nantucket and Richard Torres and wife Diane of Swansea; 1 sister: Lydia Borge of Somerset, 7 grandchildren: Jason, Joshua and Leah Torres, Ryan and Erin Mattos, Tyler and Trevor Torres; 1 great grandchild: Ayla Torres and several nieces & nephews. He was brother of the late Ewin Torres and Dorothy Mello.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 N. Main St. MONDAY at 9 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Louis de France Church at 10 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Somerset. Calling hours Sunday 5-8 P.M.
