Obituary

Augusta, GA---Mr. James Woodrow “Jim” Wilson, 95, beloved husband of the late Alberta Mae Pusey Wilson, entered into rest on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the Georgia War Veterans Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 12, 2010 in the Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel, with Reverend Sherrell Dunn and Doctor Mark Sterling officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Wilson had been a member of Curtis Baptist Church, since 1937. He was a member of the Carswell/Parrish Sunday School Class, a deacon, a worker in training union, taught Sunday School for a number of years and was a member of the Happy 39’ers and Senior Friends. Jim loved his gardening, fishing and hunting. He was under Civil Service while working at the Augusta Arsenal and Fort Gordon, where he retired from the Department of the Army, as a civilian. He served as Chaplain, for the Regular Veterans of America, while working at the Arsenal. Mr. Wilson was a veteran of World War II, where he engaged in battles and campaigns including Normandy, Northern France, Ardennce Forest in Belgium, Rhineland and Central Europe and received decorations and citations including the European Theater Ribbon, African Theater Ribbon, Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the Silver Star and the Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include his brother and sister in law, George C. and Mary L. Wilson, nephew, W. Sheridan Wilson of Augusta, GA, his beloved wife’s nephew, Willard Pusey of Ocean View, DE and niece Jean Steele and husband Harry of Bethany Beach, DE, grand nephews, David Wilson of Evans, GA, Jonathan Wilson of Valparaiso, IN and Eric Wilson of Auburn, GA, grand niece Cathyle Wilson Phillips, seven great nephews and nieces and several cousins.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, at Platt’s Crawford Avenue.
Pallbearers will be Roy Scarborough, George Hawkins, Frank McKnight, Paul Nehlen, Jimmy Bodie and James Vaughn. Honorary Pallbearers will be Curtis Choplin, John Douglas, Rollie Harp, Barry McDonald, Joe Brown, Tom Shelton and Jack Swan.
