Halifax – Edward A. Uburtis 72, died Thursday March 4 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Beverly A. (Cummings) Uburtis.
Born and raised in Brockton he was the son of the late Anthony J. and Rose (McCarthy) Uburtis and a graduate of Brockton High.
He was a veteran of the US Navy.
Edward had been an active resident of the Halifax community for 47 years having served on the regional School Committee of Silver Lake High for 12 years, six of those serving as chairman. He was also elected to serve on the Halifax Board of Assessors. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 322, a member of the Puritan Lodge AF & AM, the Aleppo Shrine, the AARP, the Master Barber’s Association, and a trustee and board President of the Sea Mist time share community of Cape Cod.
Ed was a licensed contractor, and worked many years for Bonnie Glen. He also held a real-estate brokers license as well as his license to sell real estate in Florida.
He was truly a family man and his greatest joy came from the time spent with his family and watching the many sporting events of his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Beverly he is survived by his loving children John Uburtis and his wife Susan of Georgia, Kimberly Barnard and her husband David of Pembroke, and Edward Uburtis and his wife Jenna of Abington, his sister Rosemary Anderson of Abington his 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John P. Uburtis.
His funeral service will be held Monday March 8 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Central Cemetery, Halifax. Visiting hours will be held Sunday March 7 from 3-7 PM, with a Masonic Service at 6 PM. Donations in his name may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc.
