Obituary

Mr. Charles Strickland Freeman, age 71, of Pilot Mountain passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Freeman was born in Mullins, SC on January 29, 1939 to the late Lee Dix and Charlie Mae Strickland Freeman. He lived his first 14 years in Bluefield, WV before moving with his family to the family farm in 1953. Charles graduated from Beulah High School in 1956, and then attended Guilford College. He married Patricia Isaacs in 1963. He worked for Farm Bureau Insurance Company for 42 years. During that time he also served as a Sgt. in the Army Reserves for 28 years. He was a member of The First Baptist Church in Pilot Mountain and served as a Trustee, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Charles was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Freeman is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Patricia Isaacs Freeman of the home; one son, Brian Charles Freeman of Pilot Mountain; two grandsons, Cody and Charlie, who could always make him smile; one brother and sister-in-law, Lee Dix Freeman Jr. and wife Delores of Darlington, SC; one sister and brother-in-law. Polly McMillian and husband Chester of Mt Airy; nieces, Julie and Lanie of Mt. Airy and Deanna and Debra of SC; nephews, Johnny Jr.(Kristy), Tim, Danny (Marie) Isaacs of Winston-Salem, Nicholas McMillan of Mt Airy and Lee (Robin)Freeman of SC; aunt, Dorothy Hudson of Mt Airy. Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, and one infant daughter, Laura Ann Freeman. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at The First Baptist Church of Pilot Mountain at 1:00 PM with Rev. Eugene Sherrill officiating with interment to follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Mt Airy with full Military Honors by VFW Post 2019 of Mt Airy and VFW Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the First Baptist Church in Pilot Mountain. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Johnny Dalton, PO Box 818, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041 or to the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
