Obituary

Salem: Alice (Sawchuck) Allain age 86 of Salem, died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Lafayette Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Marblehead. She was the beloved wife of the late Leroy J. Allain.

Born and raised in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Stella (Lovnuck) Sawchuck. Following her graduation, she received her hairdresser’s license in Boston and was employed as a hairdresser, for many years, at Jean’s Beauty Salon in Peabody.

Mrs. Allain and her late husband were residents of Salem and members of the Order of the Alhambra, Lugo Caravan for many years, where they volunteered their time helping disadvantaged and special needs children. She was also a member of the DAV of Peabody. During her lifetime, she especially enjoyed dancing, shopping, ceramics and gardening.

Mrs. Allain is survived by her son, Daniel J. Allain and his wife Amelia (Nimlee) of Salem, a sister-in-law Florence Sawchuck of Peabody, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Roger and Frank Sawchuck.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 8 a.m. to be followed by her funeral mass in St. James Church, Federal St., Salem at 9 a.m. Visiting hours: Wednesday 4 to 8 pm.
