New Bedford - Candida Amaro, age 98 years, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Hallmark Nursing Home. She was the widow of Jose R. Amaro. Candida was the loved mother of Donald J. Amaro of New Bedford. She was the sister of the late Irene Pacheco, Laurie Winterson and Hazel Hilario. She is also survived by 2 sister-in-laws Noemia Amaro-Figueiredo and Lucilda Amaro both of New Bedford and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Amaro was a daughter of the late David and Preciosa (Lameiras) Paiva. She was born in Gouveia, Portugal and lived in this area for most of her life. She loved knitting and stitching.
Mrs. Amaro’s funeral will be from Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Monday at 8 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St John the Baptist Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2-4 P.M.
