Obituary

WORCESTER:Robert D "Butch" Morrissey 72 of 8 Conger Rd., a retired Sergeant with the Worcester Police Department, died October 4th in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Morrissey is survived by his wife of twenty five years, Joanne C. (Karbowski) Morrissey. His first wife, Patricia H (Carroll) Morrissey died in 1976. He also leaves a son Thomas F. Morrissey of Barre Ma., four daughters, Mary Therese Morrissey of Evanston, Ill., Carroll M. wife of Gene Primomo of Delmar, New York, Patricia Morrissey of Maine and Bernadette M. wife of Steven Golas of Boylston Ma., a brother John F. and his wife Mary Morrissey of Hopkinton Ma., four grandchildren, Katelyn, Tricia and Michelle Primomo of Delmar, New York; and Brittany Golas of Boylston; and many nieces and nephews. Two other brothers, Thomas "Moe" Morrissey and William "Deac" Morrissey both of Worcester predeceased him.He was born in Worcester a son of the late Thomas F. and Sarah T. (Murphy) Morrissey and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a graduate of South High School and later graduated from Quinsigamond Community College where he studied Criminal Justice. During the Korean War he served with the U.S. Army in Casablanca.He later joined the Worcester Police Department attaining the rank of Sergeant and retired in 1982 after serving for twenty five years.

He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish and St. Marys Boosters. He had also served as a bingo worker for many years there. Mr. Morrissey was a member of Vernon Hill Post 435, American Legion, and The Retired Police and Firefighters Association. He enjoyed his family, children and grandchildren.

His funeral will be held Wednesday October 8th from Henry-Dirsa Funeral Home, 33 Ward Street with a Mass at 10 am in Christ The King Church 1052 Pleasant St. Burial will follow in St. Johns Cemetery.Calling hours in the funeral home are from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 pm Tuesday October 7th.The family requests that flowers be omitted and that donations be made to The Catholic School Appeal, in honor of either St. Marys Schools or St. Peters School 49 Elm St., Worcester Ma., 01609.
