Obituary

Matthew F. Foley Jr., 63, of Franklin, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 surrounded by his family at the Tippett Home in Needham.

Born in Norwood on August 9, 1946, he was the son of Matthew F. and Margaret (Pendergast) Foley of Franklin.

Mr. Foley was a lifelong resident of Franklin. He graduated from Marian High School in Framingham, the class of 1964 and attended Northeastern University.

Mr. Foley was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War attaining the rank of sergeant. He served for three and half years and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Before his retirement, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 11 years. He had also worked for Raytheon Corp. in Saudi Arabia during the late 1970’s.

Mr. Foley was an avid reader and enjoyed repairing small engines. He was active in the Boy Scouts as a child and proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his son, Eric Foley and his wife Gwen of Haverhill and two brothers, Dennis Foley of Stoughton and David A. Foley of Franklin.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Tuesday, March 2 at 9:15 a.m. from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Franklin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 – 8 p.m.
