Obituary

New Bedford – Barbara G. (Hilton) Taylor, 92, of New Bedford passed away at home after a long illness on February 22, 2010. She was the widow of Amos G. Taylor, Jr. to whom she was married for 29 years.

Mrs. Taylor was born in New Bedford, daughter of the late James and Marion (Gray) Hilton, and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1935. She was formerly employed by the New England Telephone Co. and the Provincetown Inn, where she summered with her husband. As a life-long and devoted member of the First Congregational Church at Lunds Corner, she served as a trustee, deaconess and treasurer of the Forward Look Club. She was awarded an official citation from the Mass. House of Representatives in recognition of “her outstanding contribution to charitable and civic organizations”. Her memberships included The Daughters of the American Revolution, The Mayflower Society and The Saturday Club of New Bedford. She was a longtime volunteer for the American Cancer Society and a dedicated Ward 1 poll worker for over 50 years. She found enjoyment in needlepoint, embroidery, caning, hand hooked and braided rugs, stamp collecting and gardening. Mrs. Taylor’s presence will be greatly missed in our community.

Survivors include 2 sisters-in-law: Florence L. Hilton of So. Hadley, MA and Sharon Hilton of S. Dartmouth; 2 nieces: Nancy Hilton of Nova Scotia, Kris Donnelly and her husband Kevin of Lakeville; a nephew: Robert G. Hilton of New Bedford; and 3 grand nieces: Alanna Brennan of Nova Scotia, Kaitlyn and Kelsey Donnelly of Lakeville.

She was sister of the late James Hilton, Jr. and Wilfed Hilton.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend:

Visiting hours on Friday, February 26, 2010, 5:00-8:00 P.M.

Funeral services on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 9:00 A.M.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial donations may be made to Hospice Outreach, 502 Bedford St., Fall River, MA 02720.

Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
