Obituary

Walter Finbar Flynn, 78, passed away on February 21st, 2010. He was born in Charlestown on December 17th, 1931 to his parents Michael and Helen (Daly) Flynn. Walter was raised in Charlestown and is a graduate of St. Francis DeSales School and Charlestown High School, Class of 1951. Walter served his country honorably as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War. Walter and his wife Doris have been residents of Medford since 1966. For 38 years he worked for the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier in Malden. He also worked as a housekeeping supervisor at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford for 22 years. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Chapter 34, the Irish American Club in Malden, the Disabled American Veterans Organization and was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Organization in Somerville. Walter has been an active parishioner at Immaculate Conception Parish in Malden for many years. He was family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife, his children and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Doris A. (McCabe) Flynn; by his children; James W. Flynn and his wife Kathleen of Medford, Janet M. Flynn-Morris and her husband J. Douglas Morris of Melrose, Robert E. Flynn and Mary Lozzi of Andover and Kenneth M. Flynn and his wife Debra of Woburn; and by his grandchildren Kerry, Kaitlyn, Mackenzie, John, Connor, Daniel, Skyla, Abigail, Michael, Jack, Leanne, Kimberly and Gabriella. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his granddaughter Katherine and by his siblings Mary DuShane and James, John, Edward, Michael, Eugene and Gerald Flynn. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Thursday February 25th at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 10:30 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday Feb. 24th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations in his memory may be made to “The Food Pantry”, c/o Immaculate Conception Parish, 10 Fellsway East, Malden, MA 02148.
