Obituary


Alan G. Weston, 60, of Portsmouth, NH, died February 8, 2010 at his home. Mr. Weston was born in Derry, NH on July 28, 1949, a son of Gail B. and the late Margaret (Webster) Weston, Jr. He was a resident of Portsmouth for the past 10 years, formerly living in Bedford, NH. Mr. Weston was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry in 1967, a graduate of UNH in Durham with his BA in 1972 and his BS in 1976. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Vietnam era in Panama, and was a member of the American Legion Post #27 in Londonderry. Mr. Weston was an avid golfer and a member of the Cochecho Country Club in Dover, NH. He enjoyed sailing, was an avid UNH Hockey fan, and loved his Labrador Retrievers. In 1991, Mr. Weston founded Publishing Partnership, Inc. with long-time friends and colleagues Sam List and Mel Graves to provide technical consulting services. Once he joined the active operations in 1992, the company began product development in earnest, creating innovative products for newspaper and magazine publishers, quickly becoming a leading supplier to these industries.
After changing its name to Publishing Partners International, PPI grew from a three person startup to a staff of 45 in the US and the UK, achieving over $10 million in annual sales. In 1999, Unisys, Inc. purchased the company to add PPI's advertising and financial management products to the Unisys worldwide media group. PPI leaves a legacy as a highly ethical, customer focused company with a culture of teamwork and cooperation. In addition to his technical contributions, Al played a key role in fostering this culture which was an essential element of the PPI's success.
He is survived by his father, Gail B. Weston Jr. of Londonderry, NH; two sisters, Sandra Misiaszek and husband David of Deerfield, NH, and Paula Brander and husband Roman of Chester, NH; one nephew, Michael Misiaszek of Candia, NH; two nieces, Michele Tobin of San Francisco, CA and Wendy Sanderson of Chester, NH; nine grandnieces and grandnephews; as well as several aunts and cousins.
Following cremation, calling hours were held on Friday, February 19th from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday at 10:00am in St. Jude Parish, 435 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. Private burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry, NH in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the NHSPCA, PO Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885.
