Emmett H. Zorn, Jr., 79, of Irwinville, Georgia, died Monday, February 15, 2010, at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M., Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. Rex Johnson and Rev. Sonny Pate officiating. Interment will follow in Irwinville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Zorn was born July 14, 1930 in Ashburn to the late Emmett H. and Margaret Corrine Ponder Zorn. He moved to the community in 1969. Mr. Zorn was retired Chief Petty Officer with the United States Navy, having served more than twenty-two years. He served in the Korean War and Vietnam War and was awarded two Bronze Stars. Mr. Zorn was a former Deputy with the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Dept. and owner/operator of Zorn Trucking Company. Mr. Zorn was a member of Irwinville United Methodist Church, a member of Woodmen Of The World and was a dedicated supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Mr. Zorn is survived by his wife: Evelyn S. Zorn of Irwinville; daughters & sons-in-law: Ester & Steve O’Donnell of Wetumpka, AL and Teresa & Arthur Harris of Lumber City; sons & daughter-in-law: Emmett Harvey Zorn, III & Patty of Irwinville and John L. Zorn of Florence, SC; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren: stepdaughters & husbands: Elaine & Jimmy Brown of Pearson, Ann & Randall Royals of Homerville and Ailene & Tim Lumpkin of Pearson; brothers & sisters-in-law: Legette & Ann Zorn of Asheville, NC and Billy & Bonnie Zorn of Greenville, SC; sisters & brothers-in-law: Maezie & Larry Lawrence of Griffin and Betty & Sherman Laminack of Irwinville as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and three grandchildren.
