Eileen M. (O'Hara) Norton, 87, of New Bedford died Monday February 15, 2010 peacefully at home. She was the wife of the late Edward G. Norton.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John P. and Eileen G. (Lacey) O'Hara, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church, where she was a member of the Guard of Honor Society.
Mrs. Norton was formerly employed as a registered nurse at St. Luke's Hospital many years ago.
During World War II, she served as an ensign in the U.S. Navy Nurses Corps at the Chelsea Naval Hospital. She was a graduate of Holy Family High School Class of 1939 and St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a member of the St. Luke's Alumni Association.
Her family will always treasure her sweet and gentle soul.
Survivors include six children, Edward J. Norton, Patricia E. Norton, Stephen M. Norton and his wife Catherine, Carol M. Larkin and her husband Daniel, and Colleen E. Brightman and her husband Douglas, all of New Bedford, and Kathleen A. Upton and her husband Ross, of Mattapoisett; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late John L. O'Hara.
