Obituary

Enos A. Gomes, 77, of New Bedford died Saturday February 13, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Elsie (Gibeau) Gomes; they were married for 55 years.

Born in Plymouth, the son of the late Enos and Mary (Mattos) Gomes, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

Mr. Gomes was formerly employed as a machinist for Brodeur Machine Company for 41 years until his retirement. He also served on the Machine Shop Advisory Board for Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational High School.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Khalid Ali of New Bedford; three daughters, Karen Camire and her husband Peter of Acushnet, Glenda Alves and her husband Roger of Freetown, and Susan Gomes of Quincy; a brother, Matthew Lopes of Carver; two sisters, Joaquina Gomes and Elsie Baptista, both of New Bedford; eight grandchildren, Tamika Jenkins, Shaneen Gomes, Nathan Gomes, Lamar Gomes, Derek Gomes, Brandon Gomes, Javelle Stephens, and Andrew Camire; a great-granddaughter, Breanna Jenkins; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Leo Perry and Albino Perry.

His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Wednesday 6-8 PM.
