TAUNTON – Albertina A. (Freitas) Nunes, beloved wife of the late John J. Nunes, Jr. passed away peacefully at the Taunton Nursing Home on Feb. 13, 2010.
She was 83.
Born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Manuel and Guilhermina (Freitas) Freitas, she was raised and educated in Taunton, and was a 1945 graduate of Taunton High School.
Mrs. Nunes worked as a teacher’s aide for the bilingual program in the Taunton Public School system for many years.
A communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, she was a member of the Weir Seniors, and an avid Red Sox fan.
She was the loving mother of John J. Nunes, III and his wife Cindy of Seekonk, Steven A. Nunes, Robert G. Nunes and his wife Dyann, and James G. Nunes and his wife Cindy, all of Taunton.
She also leaves five grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Deanna and Aryanna Nunes, and Justina McLeoud; two sisters-in-law, Dolores Nunes and Lorraine Johnson, both of Taunton; several nieces and nephews, and many devoted friends.
She was also the sister of the late John, Joseph, Felicia and Mary Freitas, and the late Alveda Giordano.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway Taunton, on Thursday, Feb. 18th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 19 Kilmer Ave. Taunton at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Feb. 17th from 4 to 7 p.m.
