Obituary

William “Bill” Alger, 58, of Auburn, NH, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on July 27, 1951, the son of Robert and Rita (Bell) Alger. He was educated in the Brooklyn Catholic school system and attended Manhattan College, where he received a degree in Civil Engineering.

Prior to his illness, he had worked as the Vice President at Kinsmen Corporation. For the past 30 years his work efforts have been acclaimed by his peers as the best in the business for his fairness and knowledge of his work.

Bill was an active communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Manchester. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Marian Council #5748, Eucharistic Minister, helped with the parish’s holiday fair for many years, and was always willing lend a hand when there was a need. Bill was an active supporter of Catholic education with involvement at St. Catherine and St. Casimir schools.

As a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, he cared and nurtured for his entire family, always striving to protect their well being. Bill enjoyed family gatherings and celebrations of every sort. He often enjoyed the warm weather and island cultural entertainment on his frequent visits to the Caribbean Island of Curacao with his wife and daughters. Some of his other hobbies and interests included golf, tennis, cooking, spending time with his family – especially his grandson, traveling, Suduko, and volunteering.

Family members include two daughters, Anne Kadlec and her husband Michael Kadlec of Auburn; Susan Miville and her husband David Miville of Auburn; one grandson, William Henry Kadlec of Auburn; his sister, Rita Bell Keller of Manchester, NJ; his mother-in-law, Frances Staniecki of Auburn; and his brother-in-law, Henry Mark Staniecki of Bloomfield, NJ. He was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Christine Alger in 2009; and his parents Robert and Rita Alger.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 in St. Catherine Church, corner of Webster and Hemlock Streets. Encryptment followed in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester.
