GLOUCESTER: Martin Dillon, 79, of Curtis Clark Park, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Galway, Ireland on August 23, 1930, he was the son of the late Paul and Bridget (Curran) Dillon. He had resided in the United States since 1962.
Martin was employed as a bellhop at the Midtown Hotel in Boston, having retired in 1980. He had previously worked in the shipping department of the S.S. Pierce Company in Boston from 1965 to 1975.
He was a member of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks No. 892, the Knights of Columbus, Council #215 of Gloucester and the Father Gabriel Druillette Assembly of Salem.
Martin was a devoted member of Holy Family Parish and was a faithful presence at all Parish events. He was also a member of the Rose Baker Senior Center.
He is survived by four sisters, Peg Duffy of Galway, Ireland, Sarah B. Foley of Norwood, Bridget Donegan of Dublin, Ireland and Nora Lynch of Chicago, IL, a cousin, Margaret Ginley of Walpole and many nieces, nephews and many dear friends. He was also predeceased by a sister, Mary Sanderson of Gloucester and three brothers, Thomas Dillon of England and Colman Dillon and Patrick Dillon both of Ireland.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning, February 13th in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. His committal service, officiated by Rev. Timothy Harrison, will be held on Monday, May 3rd in the Calvary Cemetery at 1 p.m.
