Sophie E. Tighe, a lifelong resident of Woburn, passed away at the Winchester Hospital, Winchester on Saturday, September 27, following a brief illness. The wife of the late William J. Tighe, she was eighty-nine years old.
Born in Woburn, she was the daughter of the late Frances (DuLong) and Peter Brown, She graduated St. Charles High School in 1932 and lived here all her life. She enjoyed crocheting, ceramics and loved to bowl as a young lady. Sophie was a daily communicant, and devoted to her family.
In addition to her husband William J. she was predeceased by her brother John Brown and her sister Mary Erwin.
Surviving are her three sons; William Tom and his wife Carolee of Washington, Eugene and his wife Mary of Wincheter, Dennis and his wife Kathy of Tewksbury and her daughter Maureen von Fritzinger and her husband Kurt. She was the loving grandmother of Lara Lee, Christine, Michelle, Brian, Meghan and Lisa and the great grandmother of Jessica, TJ, Michael and Tyler. She was also survived by many nieces, nepews and all her cats.
Her funeral will be from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn on Wednesday, October 1, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main st. Woburn at 10. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 30, from 4 thru 8.
