Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Emily L. (Jones) Tarr, 84, of 4 Cedar Street, died unexpectedly on Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital. She was the wife of the late Ralph R. Tarr, who died in February of 1990.
Born in Gloucester on August 25, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Howard N. and Jessie M. (Williams) Jones. She was a graduate of the Gloucester High School.
During World War II, Emily worked in a munitions plant as a quality inspector. Following the war, she was employed as a bookkeeper for the former W.G. Brown’s Department Store. She had also mended nets at the Net and Twine Company, where she met her future husband.
She is survived by her son, Ronald D. Tarr, a niece, Laura Smith and her husband, Dr. Sylvester Smith and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was also predeceased by her son, Alan Tarr, a brother, Clarence Jones and sister, Ruth Jones.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday morning at 11 a.m. in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 – 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Day By Day Adult Care, 4R Blackburn Center, Gloucester, MA 01930. Interment will be held in the Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport.
