FOSS Ira C. Jr., 84, lifelong resident of Wellesley, Feb. 3, 2010. Beloved husband of Nancy (Shaw) Foss.
Devoted father of Ira C. “Skip” Foss, III and his wife Susan of Wellesley, Frank W. Foss and his wife Charlene of Natick, and Stephen S. Foss and his wife Sarah of Littleton.
Loving grandfather of Jennifer Foss, Sharon Foss, Frank Foss, Jr. and his wife Ann, Jeffrey Foss and his wife Cheryl, Robert Foss and Glen Foss.
Brother of David Foss of Portland, ME, Peter Foss of Scarborough, ME, and the late Jerome Foss. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Ira attended the Wellesley Public Schools and was a graduate of The New Hampton School in NH, a young men’s college preparatory school. He attended Harvard University and later graduated from Burdette College which was located in Boston.
Ira was a CPA for Coopers & Lybrand in Boston, after which he was self-employed for many years. He was also a Proprietor of Scarborough and Eastern Realty Trusts. Ira was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was a WWII veteran of the Army Air Force.
Ira was an Executive Secretary to the Wellesley Advisory Committee and also taught bookkeeping and accounting for Wellesley's Adult Education.
A member of the Newton YMCA, Ira enjoyed playing squash, tennis and handball. He was an avid jogger and loved taking the family dog for long walks at the park and the seashore.
While not professionally trained, he enjoyed playing the piano and keyboard using his rare gift of music by ear. His favorite melodies were those of the ‘30s and ‘40s.
Ira took great enjoyment in organizing intricate scavenger hunts for his children when they were young and later his grandchildren, which they still fondly remember.
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 79 Denton Rd. Wellesley, on Sat. Feb. 13th at 11 a.m. Visiting hours omitted. Interment private.
