Raymond R. Nault, 77, of Oak St., Manville, died Sunday evening at Woonsocket Health Center surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Muriel (Godin) Nault. They were married on April 23, 1955.
Born in Manville, he was a son of the late Wilfred and Irene (Boudreau) Nault. He remained a lifelong resident of Manville.
Mr. Nault served in the Army during Korea and was present during atomic testing in the South Pacific.
Mr. Nault was the proprietor of Nault’s Tire & Battery on Railroad St. in Manville for over 40 years. He also worked at Moseley Corp in Franklin before his retirement in 1995.
Ray served as a volunteer firefighter with the Manville Fire Department and was a longtime member of the American Legion Alphonse Yelle Post 9, Manville, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a communicant of St. James Parish and was a member of the Union of Prayer.
Ray was a passionate hockey fan and was an ardent supporter of “his teams” the Rhode Island Reds and the Canadiens. Camping vacations were among the most treasured times Ray shared with his family.
As a resident of the Woonsocket Health Center for the past 12 years, Ray counted his fellow residents and caregivers as part of his extended family. His laughter, kindness, and cheerful disposition in the face of his extended illness has served as a source of courage and inspiration for all who knew him. His family is forever grateful to those who cared for him during his final years.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, Ray is survived by four sons, Robert N. Nault and his wife Karen, and Michael R. Nault all of California, David L. Nault and his wife Jennifer of Vermont, and Stephen R. Nault and wife Linda of Albion, a daughter Rachel A. McKeon and husband Paul of Manville. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Pauline Marien and Lucille Godin.
His funeral will be Thursday at 8:30 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. James Church, Division St., Manville. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8 pm.
