Robert `Red` Atkins, 74, Clarksville, died Sunday, January 31, 2010, at Gateway Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Louder and Rev. David Averitt officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until the hour of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born October 24, 1935 in Woodlawn, TN son of the late Walter Atkins and Thelma Pollard Atkins. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 1/2 years, Mary Ann Averitt Atkins. Mr. Atkins was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a retired truck driver with Marvin Hayes and a instructor USA Training Academy. Survivors include a son, Chris Atkins of Clarksville and a daughter, Betsy Atkins of Nashville. Pallbearers will be Jerry Morgan, Clint Averitt, Gene Hamaker, Matt Averitt, Randell Bullard, Larry Averitt, Jr., Bruce Swift, and Joe H. Atkins.
