Joanne R. York of Lawrence, formerly of Andover, died on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at the Lawrence General Hospital. She was 80 years old. Joanne was born in Andover on October 20, 1929, the daughter of the late Walter R. and Mary J. (Scanlon) York.
She was formerly employed with Frank C. Meyers and later with Gillette Co. Joanne was a graduate of Punchard High School, class of 1947. She loved gardening and horses and was an avid bowler and golfer. She will be remembered for her great sense of humor and her quick wit.
Joanne is survived by her nephew, Albert Honnen, Jr. and her niece Joanne Honnen as well as her two great-nephews, Jason and Corey Honnen and brother-in-law, Albert Honnen, all of Portsmouth, Rhode Island. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her, especially her dear friends, Claire Melvin Mosson and Dorothy Kissel. Joanne was preceded in death by her sister, Mary York Honnen and her close friend, Ruth B. Yukno.

Calling hours were held on Monday, February 1, 2010, from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover. Her funeral service was held at 1 PM in the funeral home. Burial was in St. Mary Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence.
