Obituary

Mr. Alexander Koukias, 84, formerly of
Varnum Ave., passed away Friday, January 29th, at the Greenbriar Terrace in Nashua, New Hampshire.

He was born March 23, 1925 in Lowell, Massachusetts, a son of the late Stefanos and Gladys Koukias. Husband of 54 years to the late Erene (Behrakis) Koukias who passed in March 2008.

Alex was educated through the Lowell Schools, and was a graduate of Lowell High School.

He served his country in the Army during World War II. Upon his return, he was the owner and operator of Hilltop Dairy up until his retirement. He served local residences and businesses in the Lowell area.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell, the Archbishop Iakovos Leadership 100 Endowment Fund, and the Greek American Legion Post #1.

Alex loved being outdoors, was an avid bowler, and enjoyed saltwater fishing.

He is survived by his son. Stephen Koukias and his wife, Robin of E. Kingston, N.H.; a daughter, Gail Philipon and her husband, Douglas of Hollis, N.H.; two granddaughters, Eleni and Alexia Philipon; a brother, John Koukias of Lowell; four sisters, Mary Vasilopoulos of Hudson, N.H., Effie Vassilakos of Chelmsford, Helen Koumpouras and her husband, Nicholas of Lowell, and Carol Wilkins of Dunstable; also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Alex was pre-deceased by his siblings, Charles Koukias, and Evanthea Demoulas.

Friends will be received at the M.R. LAURIN FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral will take place on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Funeral Home to be followed by services at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 10 a.m. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Greek American Legion, 228 Worthen St., Lowell, MA 01852 or the Hellenic American Academy Endowment Fund, 45 Broadway St., Lowell, MA 01854.
