BOSTON -- Maria G. (Valle) Ewing of Fairhaven died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at Brigham and Women's Hospital after a seven-year battle with breast cancer. She was the wife of Alan Ewing and former wife of James R. Goes Sr.
Born in Manzanillo, Mexico, she lived in this area for many years.
Mrs. Ewing recently retired from UMass Dartmouth Admissions Department after working with the university for 28 years.
She was affectionately known to her family and friends as "Lupe" and loved to spend time working in her garden.
Survivors include her widower; a son, James R. Goes Jr. of Wrentham; her mother, Maria Valle of Manzanillo; three brothers, Carlos, Tino and Jorge, all of Mexico; a sister, Cuca of Mexico; her former husband, James R. Goes Sr. of Dartmouth; and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday Sept. 27, 2003 at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford followed by burial in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday from 7 - 9 p.m. only.
