LAWRENCE – Catherine A. (Scannell) Flanagan 100 died Tuesday January 19, 2010 at the Sunbridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lawrence, MA.
Born on December 23, 1909 in Lawrence she was the daughter of Jeremiah and Catherine Scannell. A life long resident of Lawrence before moving in with her son in Methuen and Charlotte, ME, she attended the St. Laurence O’Toole School and was a graduate of Lawrence High School with the Class of 1928. She was an attendant of St. Lucy’s Church in Methuen and prior to its closing St. Laurence O’Toole Church in Lawrence, where she was the president of the Ladies Guild, and also a Girl Scout leader Troop 37. She was a member of Central Catholic High School Mother’s Club and the Presentation of Mary’s Mother’s League. She was employed as a clerk at J.J. Newbury’s in Lawrence.
The widow of James Flanagan, she is survived by her sons, Gerald Flanagan and his wife Barbara of Methuen, MA, Dr. Joseph Flanagan and his wife Kay of Waldoboro, ME.
Daughter-in-law Dorothy Flanagan of the Village of Florida.
Sisters-in-law Margaret Flanagan of Methuen, MA and Dorothy Scannell of Bradford, MA.
Brother-in-law Louie Alamino of Methuen, MA
Many grandchildren including her granddaughter Nurse Sharon Dobbins of Cape Coral, FL, who cared for her, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Catherine was the mother of the late Thomas, James and Mary Flanagan.
She also is survived by Raymond Oullette of Amesbury, MA her daughter Mary’s longtime companion.
Catherine also leaves her longtime friend and neighbor Ruth Lange.
ARRANGEMENTS: In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Sunbridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center 555 South Union Street Lawrence, MA 01843.
