Donald I. Nelson, 90, of Methuen, passed away on Monday January 25, 2010 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill.
Donald was born in Methuen. He attended Methuen schools and then graduated from Essex Agricultural in Danvers, MA. Donald owned and operated the Nelson’s Rocking “D” Farm in Methuen until his retirement. Following his retirement he worked for 10 years at Robichaud Hardware in Methuen. In his free time, Donald enjoyed woodworking and restoration of sleighs and buggies.
Donald leaves his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy E. (Brown) Nelson of Methuen, his four children, Donna Wicks and her husband Lloyd of Flagler Beach, FL, Daniel W. Nelson and his wife Terry of Wentworth, NH, Dawn Toothaker and her husband Richard of Salem, NH and Daralyn Melone and her husband William of Londonderry, NH, a brother, Warren Nelson and his wife Olive of Raymond, NH, two sisters, Carolyn Gill and her husband Ellis of Methuen and Bernice Moore and her husband Donald of Hampstead, NH, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Donald is predeceased by a brother, Clifford Nelson.
Friends are invited to call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27th at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial of ashes will take place on Friday, January 29th at 11 a.m. at the Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
