Obituary

Eldora Tessitore, 85, a long-time resident of Greenville and for the past 12 years a resident at Cortland Place, died peacefully at Roger Williams Hospital on January 21, 2010 in the company of her loving family. She was the wife of the late Orlando Tessitore.

A native Rhode Islander, she was born to John and Antoinette Vitullo and raised in Providence, where she graduated with honors from Classical High School. As a young woman she was an active member of St. John’s Parish in Federal Hill, where she served as President of the Rosary Guild, was later a member of St. Pius Church in Elmhurst, and for many years was a member of St. Philip Church in Greenville, where she taught CCD.

She began her career as a law secretary and spent most of her working life in the medical profession, retiring as a patient supervisor from Harvard Health of Rhode Island. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and participated actively in community and church affairs. In addition to her family, Eldora’s loves were gardening, music, reading, and a rousing game of Scrabble.

She is survived by her loving twin sisters, Carmel Vitullo and Marie DelBonis; her three sons, Robert, John (his wife Judith), and David; as well as seven granddaughters and one great granddaughter. Eldora’s family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the many dedicated men and women at Roger Williams Hospital who provided their mother with extraordinary care during the final weeks of her life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11 am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Avenue,Greenville. Visitation Sunday 3-6pm in the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial will be private.
